PEFC Canada represents organizations in Canada that have certified their forestry operations to the PEFC-endorsed Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) standards, as well as organizations and businesses that are certified to the PEFC International Chain of Custody Standard.
Canada has been a member of PEFC International since 2001. The CSA SFM standard (CAN/CSA-Z809), first published in 1996 and revised twice since, has been endorsed by PEFC since March 2005. In 2009 CSA published a second standard, CAN/CSA-Z804 Sustainable Forest Management for Woodlots and Other Small Area Forests intended for use by woodlot owners or managers of forests up to 4,000 hectares in area. The woodlot standard (Z804) and the original standard (Z809) were assessed by PEFC International in 2011 and both have received PEFC endorsement until June 2016.
PEFC Canada offers the use of the international PEFC Chain of Custody certification standard and is authorized to issue rights to use the PEFC label to qualified organizations in Canada. PEFC Chain of Custody certification together with the PEFC on-product label provides an assurance that wood and paper products are sourced from sustainably managed forests. For importers of Canadian forest products, PEFC Canada can help access wood and paper products that are PEFC certified. Specifically, PEFC Canada will provide contact information for leading Canadian suppliers that export wood and paper products which are PEFC certified.
