How to get Certified

1. Canadian organizations seeking to supply national and international markets with PEFC certified material will have to determine which standards apply to their organizations.

• The PEFC endorsed Forest Management standards certification are available to Canadian organizations responsible to manage public or private forest land regardless of the size of the forest area – from a few hectares to several million hectares.
• PEFC chain of custody certification is available worldwide and open to all companies that manufacture, process, trade or sell forest-based products. To earn PEFC chain of custody certification, you must develop and implement procedures to account for the purchasing, tracking, manufacturing, sale and recordkeeping of certified materials. PEFC chain of custody certification is available for organizations that have chain of custody activities in individual or multiple locations.

2. Start implementing the standard within your organization.

3. Contact a PEFC accredited certification body. Once you are ready, set a date for your initial registration audit.

3. Complete an audit with the certification body to assess if you have fulfilled all the requirements. Address any non conformance with corrective and preventative actions that are acceptable to your auditor.

4. Get your PEFC certificate. Once the certification body finds your organization complies with the certification requirements, they will issue you with a PEFC certificate. If your organization has a PEFC certificate, products may be sold with the PEFC claims.

5. Contact PEFC Canada to receive your PEFC Trademark licence and agreement. Start using the PEFC trademarks!
