PEFC Certification

International

Go to the PEFC Council’s, interactive database to find up-to-date information about PEFC certified forests and PEFC certified companies including a summary of hectares certified by country.

About 10% of the world's forests are currently certified to a recognized sustainable forest management standard. The remaining 90% should be more closely evaluated because without certification, there is no third party auditor assessing that the organization has appropriate management systems in place by which it can systematically address legal compliance issues in sourcing. This is not to say that just because a forest product is not certified it comes from a poorly managed or illegal source. However, when a product does come from a certified forest, it carries the assurance that an independent third party has assessed that the organization has suitable management systems to allow it to address legal compliance along with other sustainable forest management practices.

PEFC accounts for 2/3rds of the total area of certified forests globally – an area larger than the combined forest area of all 27 member countries in the EU.
